Integration of Orthopaedic Surgeons on Track for Completion in October 2019

Western New York patients will soon have greater access to leading edge, comprehensive musculoskeletal care.

The integration of Western New York’s leading orthopaedic surgeons is well underway. Announced in June, the plan to bring together 22 doctors from Excelsior Orthopaedics, nine surgeons from Northtowns Orthopedics and one from Buffalo Orthopaedic Group is on track for completion on October 1, 2019. The partnership agreement between the physicians has been executed and all other elements of the integration plans are proceeding as anticipated.

When complete, this collaboration – designed to improve the quality of musculoskeletal care delivered across the region – will include over 90 providers, encompassing surgeons, doctors, physician assistants, and physical and occupational therapists operating under the Excelsior Orthopaedics brand.

The “new” Excelsior Orthopaedics will operate 7 offices across WNY – from Niagara Falls to Ellicottville – expanding access to an extensive spectrum of services a patient with an acute or chronic orthopaedic condition might need, including board certified and fellowship trained specialty care, on-site diagnostic testing (x-ray, MRI, CT and ultrasound), urgent care, outpatient surgery, physical and occupational therapy, podiatry and durable medical equipment.

For now, it continues to be “business as usual” for the patients of all the providers who are part of the planned integration. Patients can continue to call the same phone number and use the same website they’ve always used, and they will be seen by their provider at the same location they’ve visited in the past. Over the next few weeks, patients will be contacted directly with more information about any changes they may see beginning in October.

The only exception to the October timeline, is the fact that one of the surgeons involved in this new collaboration, Michael J. Ostempowski, M.D., currently with Buffalo Orthopaedic Group, will begin seeing patients at Excelsior Orthopaedics Amherst and Orchard Park offices on September 16, 2019.

“The plans for our collaboration are coming together really well,” said David Uba, CEO of Excelsior Orthopaedics. “We have a great team that’s working extremely hard to make the transition a seamless one for our patients. We’re looking forward to completing the integration in October and being able to provide more patients across Western New York with greater access to the highest quality musculoskeletal care available.”
