Concerning the hip, the most common form of surgery is hip replacement. This is usually done for someone who has early onset or degenerative arthritis to the point that it hampers their daily activities. The surgery itself involves removing the damaged hip joint and replacing it with a metal implant to increase mobility and reduce pain. The recovery time for this procedure is usually about five weeks before a patient will be completely comfortable with the implant.
